November 2013 Favourites

November 2013 Favourites

Well, this month has been crazily busy for me, what with being rushed off my feet at work, then trying to catch up with all the projects needed for my little boy's school work and in between all that I have been decorating my new bedroom and buying all new carpet, and a bed and nice bits of furniture to go in it. This week has been particularly hectic, but I thought I would sit down, take 5 minutes out and blog about my November favourites.

To be honest what with changing rooms, my makeup is all over the place and I have been more or less sticking to the same type of looks because I just hadnt had the time to hunt out lots of different lipsticks and shadows. But hopefully (fingers crossed) by Sunday I should all be moved in and starting to organise things a little more. Here are the things that have got me through this crazy month

1) Very Irresistible by Givenchy
This perfume is so lovely and light, that it is perfect for wearing to work.It is quite a sweet smell, but lasts all day. What with my Alien perfume all gone(sob sob), I have had chance to try and use up some of my huge collection of perfumes, and this with Gucci Guilty have been my go to fragrances.

2)Olia hair colour
This hair colour has really helped me feel more confident in going out, because before my hair was very grey but since I have coloured my hair I feel like people arent looking at all the silver streaks and thinking she is old. Its really easy to apply and didnt leave a nasty odour in the room like some hair colourants can.

3)Rockateur Blush by Benefit
I LOVE this blush, it has been the only blush I have used all month, and look there is hardly a dent in it. Such a beautiful colour and leaves just a gentle hint of a shimmer. Just beautiful and highly recommend it.

4)Diamond Dog Eye Shadow By Urban Decay.
This eyeshadow is decieving. It looks just a plain boring  chocolate coloured shadow in the pan but oh my word, the glitter in it is gorgeous. The glitter runs all the way through the shadow, as well, not just layered on the top, like some cheap eyeshadows. Also, what makes it be my favourite too, is that the glitter does not fall down onto your cheeks during the day, so that you never end up looking like a huge glitterball. It is a stunning colour, and is perfect for those glittery looks that we like to wear around Christmas time.

5)NYC Sunny Bronzer
My bronzer for the month was NYC Sunny, it is a great bronzer, doesnt give off too much colour, and is not too orange based which is perfect for me as I don't like to look like I've been tangoed, it just gives a light flush of colour as if you have been in the sunshine. Again, I have used this over and over and it doesnt look like Ive used any.

6)Hello Flawless Foundation by Benefit
I love this foundation. I bought it off QVC to try as I had never seen it before, and so far Im really impressed, its not too runny, and gives a medium coverage which can be built up. Ive used up about a quarter of the bottle which is good for me, as I dont tend to go through foundations very quickly. But Im trying to use up half used things so that I dont let them go off before I can finish them.

7)False Lash Effect Mascara by Max Factor

I think you can still get this mascara at most drugstores, but it is a very good mascara, have had it a while though so it might have been a limited edition thing though. It gives perfect curl and volume, in just one coat which you could leave it at, but I always tend to give the eyelashes a second coat to ensure the lashes stay curled throughout the day.

8)Enummi Skincare
This skincare samples set was very kindly sent to me by a this company in America. A lovely lady named Heather contacted me and asked if I would like to recieve some skincare samples to try and see if I liked them. There were cleansers, toners, serums, day creams, eye creams and night creams in there. At the moment, the ones I have tried I am really enjoying and Im about halfway through the pack. Once I have used all the samples I will of course do a full review on my blog telling you whether I enjoyed it or not and whether I would recommend them.

9)Darling Kissable Balm Stain By Revlon
This is a beautiful colour, a blue based pink and because it comes in a crayon type tube, it is so easy to apply and you really dont need to use a mirror to apply it. Because I have been so busy this month, I have relyed on this because it is one of those lip crayons that you can just throw in your bag and not worry about. It complements every skin tone, and has a lovely minty taste when on the lips.

10)Bleu Asphalt Nail Polish by Bourjois
Now I am a nail polish addict, and I change my nail colour religiously every other day, whether it is chipped or not and so it is very unlikely that I would ever wear one colour more than twice in any month (yes, I do have a LOT of nail polish). But this month I have LOVED this colour, and repainted my nails 3 times in this. It is a slate bluey toned grey and is perfect for autumn/winter.

Well, that was my favourites for this month, what are yours? Let me know in the comments section.

No 7 Cleansing brush and melting gel cleanser

No 7 Cleansing Brush and Melting Gel cleanser

I am not one for gimmicks, and when the Clarisonic first came out, I thought it was very expensive and couldn't really improve on what a good exfoliant can do. I mean over a £100 for a cleansing brush, did seem a little steep to be honest.

Then Olay came out with a similar version and although it was basically the same thing it was a lot cheaper, but I still couldn't quite bring myself to purchase it. I felt it was just going to be one of those things that I take out of the box and use a couple of times and then throw in the back of a cupboard and for it never to see the light of day again.

A few months ago, about the beginning of August, my sister came for dinner and just happened to mention that she had bought the No7 cleansing brush and the cleanser to go with it. Now, I think I paid £25.00 for it, I could be wrong as I have just checked the website, and it says £15.00 so Im not quite sure, but I am sure it was more than £15.00 when I purchased it. Anyway, I bought the brush and the cleanser and thought well, I will give it a go. If its no good then I hadn't really wasted that much money on it.

The brush has 2 speeds that you can use, a medium just normal speed, but if you press the button again, it goes to a super quick speed. If you press too hard on your skin whilst cleansing then the brush will make a funny noise and slow down, so then you know to reduce how hard you are trying to cleanse.

At first I felt that the bristles on the brush were really abrasive to my skin and it felt like it was scratching me, rather than cleansing, but the more I have used it the more I have got used to the sensation.
I have to say now I am very impressed with the product and I use it a lot, definitely 3 or 4 times a week. I don't like to use it every day as I feel that it might leave the skin too tender, just like the beauty professionals don't advise you to exfoliate every day as it leaves the skin too damaged and prone to breakouts.

The melting gel cleanser is the product I use with the brush, and the 2 products combined together give me such a lovely cleansed skin. The cleanser doesn't have a particular smell that I have noticed, but be very careful around the delicate eye area, as I have found if you get too much of it in your eyes it can cause a slight stinging sensation, as do most cleansers. The cleanser when I bought it was £9.50, but if you wait till Boots have the voucher where you can get £5 off No 7 skincare then that brings it down to £4.50 and I think its very reasonable at that price.

I would highly recommend this product and it takes pride of place in my bathroom. I feel like my skin is properly cleansed and dirt free after I have used it. Of course being a beauty blogger I will continue to try out new items and review them for you, but I would say that this is a economical and effective way of getting your hands on a similar product to the Clarisonic, but without the extreme cost.

I hope you found this review helpful. Let me know in the comments below if you would like me to test out any other products and review them for you.

A little shopping trip

A Little Shopping Trip

If you have been reading my blog, you will know that I had written a post about high end items that I would like if I had  the money. Well, Tom Ford's Spanish Pink lipstick was one of them. All my favourite gurus on Youtube spoke about how lovely it was and how everyone should own one. I do now, YAY!!! thanks to my lovely partner who had given me some money for Christmas and so we went into Selfridges today and managed to get myself the coveted lipstick.
Can I just say how lovely the staff were. From the moment I approached the counter, and asked about it the lady couldn't do enough for me, so polite yet pleasant, and made me feel like their number 1 customer. They gift wrapped the lipstick in black tissue paper and then even the gift bag was tied closed. Everything felt very elegant and sophisticated, even though I was only dressed in my big winter coat and jeans.

Then we popped to Debenhams as I had a £10 gift card to spend and it runs out on Sunday, so wanted to get something nice. I headed straight to the Urban Decay counter and saw the Naked face and body shimmer/highlighter powder, reduced from £20 down to £18 and then with my £10 gift card I managed to get it for £8. A total bargain.
After a little wander, I found myself just happening to walk into Superdrug where I found the new Real Techniques beauty sponge, which i had wanted to pick up and try out, to see if it was like my other beauty blender, which I love. Then saw some cotton pads which I picked up as I was close to running out, and saw the new Vaseline limited edition tin, which is called Paint The Town Red, and is tinted red, which gives the lips just a delicate wash of colour, and moisture when you dont want to be bothered wearing lipstick.
TK Maxx isnt a shop that I go into regularly, but when I have they have had some lovely household things, and with me having my new room done, I wanted to see if they had any trinkets or ornaments which would fit in with the colour scheme. I didn't find much but I found a really useful cosmetics organiser which can go on the top of my dressing table.
With not being able to go shopping very much, I have found myself on Ebay a lot more and have picked up a few little items, well namely 3 things, a paint pot by Mac that I had never heard of "Camel Coat" and 2 nail polishes, one from Essie "Smokin Hot" and one from Chanel "Rouge Noir". I have really been into the dark grey/ dark burgundy nails this month. I think they really suit the cold autumny/winter season.
This picture doesn't really do the colour of the paint pot justice. It is far more of a milk chocolatey brown than the cream colour which is depicted above.
I am so excited that my new makeup room/bedroom is nearly complete. The new carpet was laid today, new lampshade put up, and new makeup storage built, the Ikea Alex 9 drawer .
I cant wait to get in the room and starting organising everything, and putting things where I want them. At the moment my bedroom is a tiny box room and I dont have any room for anything, my clothes are piled up, my makeup is all over the place, its a proper mess. But on Saturday, my new bed will arrive, my curtains are being put up and I will be able to move in and call it my room.

I will admit, that my family and friends will agree, Im not good with change, and DIY and I really did not want all the hassle and expense of a new room. But with everyones help and support I have got a lovely new room that I will be able to blog from happily. I cant wait to give you a photographic room tour and show you what it is now like.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my little shopping trip.

November 2013 Empties

November 2013 Empties

Well, last month I was panicking I hadn't got nearly enough empties to do a blog post and then this month, well, I have lots. I was going to wait till the very last day of November to do this post but the bag I keep it all in kept falling over and it was falling on the floor, and I just thought enough is enough!! Do the post and then sort the empties into the recycling bin. So here we go.

1) Sainsbury's baby wipes
Baby wipes I go through quite fast, as I use them for everything. From wiping up spillages of makeup, to spot cleaning my brushes to giving the bathroom a quick once over. These ones, I think were reduced to £1 as they were on offer, and I can never resist a bargain.

2) Dove deodorant
I really liked this anti perspirant deodorant. It had a clean smell, didnt mark my clothes, which, when it happens really annoys me, and helped make me feel clean and fresh every day, which is what you need when you are around the public all the time.

3)Organix macadamia oil shampoo
I love, love love this shampoo!! The bottle lasts forever and really cleaned my hair nicely. It was reduced to £1.75 when I bought it, and it seemed to last me forever. It smells divine and gave my hair such a lovely shine and sleekness to it, I highly recommend.

4)Yankee Candle Spiced Orange
This candle was so lovely. Such a warming, Christmassy scent, and my little boy loved it. He kept asking me to put the candle on again, so was very disappointed when this was all burnt out. But I cant buy any more just yet, as I have quite the collection of candles, at the moment (25+ eeek!!) so I need to burn a few more before I can justify indulging in another candle purchase.

5)Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion
I reviewed this item last week, and as was said, I loved it, and I will be making a purchase of the full size bottle, as I was really impressed with how it sank straight into the skin.

6) Nip and Fab Pistachio Sundae Body Butter
Now, this was a MAJOR fail for me. I recieved this in a Glossybox a few months back, an oh my word it was disgusting. Dont get me wrong the consistency of the butter was rich, and sank into the skin lovely, but, oh my word, the smell. It was just too strong and not a pleasant smell for me. It lasted a good long while after application, but it was too nutty, and chocolatey, and just, well, just not for me. I was glad when this was all used up. I definitely will NOT be repurchasing this.

7)Bayliss and Harding Rose, Ylang, Ylang & Patchouli Body Lotion
This was a much better body lotion, I had recieved this for Christmas last year, and it had been lying around in my drawer for a while, so I began to use it, and was really pleasantly surprised. It sank into the skin immediately, and smelt very slightly of roses and patchouli. Would recommend.

8) Elnett hairspray

I love Elnett hairspray and will repurchase this over and over, in fact I used up 2 of these this month. It reminds me of my nan that passed away, a long time ago, but she always used this hairspray, and the smell always reminds me of sitting in the kitchen while she took her rollers out of her hair and sprayed her curls into place. Fond memories :)

9) Vera Wang Princess body lotion
This was part of a gift set that I recieved for Christmas last year. The perfume I had used up ages ago, and had forgotten about the body lotion. It was beautiful, just gently perfumed, and felt very satiny when applied to my skin.

10) Urban Decay Naked Foundation
It is very rare for me to use up a whole foundation, as i have so many and tend to vary what I use day to day, but this I used quite regularly and enjoyed its light coverage, even though I needed to apply powder throughout the day to help keep my skin looking matte.

Well, as you can see this month I used a lot of body lotions up, a whole foundation and 2 hairsprays!! It feels good though when you know you have used something up, and get rid of it to make room for new things :)

Hope you enjoyed this, let me know what empties you have gone through this month.

The Christmas Tag

The Christmas Tag
I saw this tag on Glamour,Glitter and Gloss's blog and she had said that she tagged everyone to do it. So, here we go.

1) Do you prefer a real/synthetic Christmas Tree
I prefer a synthetic xmas tree. The real trees die too quickly and the needles drop all over the floor (which annoys me so much lol) so its a synthetic all the time. I also think that it is more economical to have a synthetic tree. Also, once the tree is down if you have a real tree you have got to find a way of disposing of it. So it is far much easier to have a synthetic tree as it can just be put back in its box and put back up into the loft.

2) You're in a coffee shop, its December what do you pick ?
I would either go for a Mocha with extra chocolate sprinkles, a Pumpkin Spice latte or a simple hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows.

3) What's your favourite colour scheme to decorate the Christmas tree?
Before I had my son, I used to just decorate it all in gold, and then use multicolour chaser lights to add the colour. But now, every year my little boy chooses which colours he would like on the tree. Last year we had multicoloured decorations, every colour you can think of, and bright blue chaser lights. This year, he wants red, silver and blue decorations.

4) Do you prefer to give or recieve gifts?
I know this sounds so greedy, but I prefer to recieve gifts. I find it so very stressful choosing presents that everyone will like and all the financial stress that goes with giving gifts, just makes it a huge headache for me. I know others enjoy the whole hunting for the perfect present, but I just hate doing it.

5)Do you like mince pies?
I love them, they are delicious, hot or cold, on their own or with custard, it doesn't bother me. I would eat them all year long if I could. Once mince pies are on the supermarket shelves you know Santa is a'coming.

6) What's your favourite Christmas lunch?
We always have the same dinner every year, but that doesnt bother me because we never eat the meat at any other time other than Christmas Day. We have turkey, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, stuffing, sausages wrapped in bacon, peas, carrots, gravy and cranberry sauce. The only thing I will NEVER eat is sprouts. Euurggh !! Makes me want to throw up just smelling them cooking, because the rest of my family love them.

7) What's your Christmas Day fashion?
To be honest, I really dont have a fashion. I just wear something that's comfortable and warm, so that when I have a full tummy of food the clothes aren't going to be too tight to lounge around in. I'm hoping to get some more Christmassy jumpers, and so this year I might be wearing one of those. I will try to post a picture on Instagram if I do.

8) What's your favourite Christmas Song?
It has to be "Step Into Christmas" by Elton John. Its brilliant and just makes you want to dance.

9)What's your favourite Christmas film?

I love Miracle on 34th Street. Its such a feel good film, and its also, because I have walked down 34th Street in New York, (which is my most favourite place in the world) and reminds me of my happy place.

10) Open presents before or after lunch?
Oh my goodness, before definitely. I dont think I could wait till after, the suspense would be killing me, and plus I dont think my little boy could hold out that long either.

Well, that was the Christmas Tag, I hope you enjoyed it and I tag all of you to do the post too.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation
This foundation appealed to me straight away, when it first came out about a year ago. I absolutely love Urban Decay and all of their products. I especially love their eyeshadow palletes and so I was very intrigued on whether I would enjoy the foundation and whether it would live up to its much hyped up release.

The foundation comes in a lightweight plastic bottle, which makes it a lot easier to travel with, as you haven't got to worry about whether the bottle will smash and the foundation getting all over the rest of your belongings.

The bottle has a pump dispenser which makes it easier to control how much product comes out at a time.

It is described as a weightless ultra definition liquid makeup. It is peptide infused, light diffusing, and paraben free, so it has some good qualities for your skin.

The bottle contains 30mls/1fl oz of product and it is £27.00 from Debenhams, and Urban Decay online. I bought it in the shade 0.5, but there are 18 colour shades to choose from, so you are more than like to find a good match for your skin tone.

When first using this foundation, you have to give it a very good shake to ensure all the liquid and colour pigment is mixed together well. The foundation is extremely liquidy and you have to make sure you use it quickly, or you can risk it sliding off your hand and maybe onto the floor/clothing.

It can be a very light foundation, and as is suggested by the title, can make your skin appear as if it is "naked" and you aren't wearing any make-up but then it does cover some redness and gives your skin a more even skin tone than just bare skin alone. I have applied it with just my fingertips, which gives a real blended appearance and with a beauty blender gives another great finish. the only way I found that didn't work was with a foundation brush as it appeared to look a little streaky.

The foundation can be built up with another layer to give you more coverage, but I wouldn't recommend too much as it did cake a little around the edges of my nose, and on my chin. I did have to apply powder to make it look more matte in appearance, and had to reapply powder every 2 or 3 hours to reduce the shine that had appeared on my T-zone. On me, the foundation lasted a good 6-8 hours before I felt it was time to remove it.

Overall, I do recommend this foundation if you like a light -medium coverage and if you are prepared to keep applying powder to stop it looking shiny throughout the day.

Let me know if you have tried this foundation, and the results you found with it.

Product Review: Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick "Be Free"

Product Review : Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick  "Be Free"

I have tried many lipsticks in my time, from cheap Natural Collection lipsticks to high end Dior lipsticks. But, I had never tried a Bare Minerals lipstick. I have one of their lipglosses which I love so I thought I would try their lipstick. On choosing the colour, I wanted to have a fairly neutral colour just in case I didnt like it that much that I would still wear it on workdays.

The lipstick itself comes in a beautiful sleek black tube with "Bare Minerals printed on it. It has a small round silver button that you push down to remove the cap.

In the lipstick you get 3.5g/0.12oz of product and I purchased this from Bare Minerals at the price of £16.00.  From what I could see there were 10 shades available ranging from a deep brown to a bright tomato red.

The description on the outer box says "Unleash your inner moxie with a vibrant surge of creamy pigment packed colour. Deeply hydrates and conditions while improving lip fullness instantly and over time."

This colour, I would describe as a peachy brown nude which is perfect for a natural look and would go beautifully with a smoky eye makeup look. It is a creamy lipstick which glides on to the lips without no pulling on the skin.
It has just a subtle shimmer to it which helps keep your lips moisturised, and I feel you dont need to wear a lip gloss with it, as it is not a matte formula. The lipstick has a slight minty taste and has a slight tingle to it, but it is not uncomfortable like some other lipsticks that claim to plump up your lips.

Overall I feel it is a lovely lipstick, perfect for everyday wear. It is a little more pricey than drugstore lipsticks, but the quality is well worth the investment. I will be looking for more shades in this line, I highly recommend them.

Let me know in the comments if you have any lipsticks in this range and what colours you recommend.

Hope you enjoyed this post.

Product Review : Aveeno daily moisturising lotion

Product Review: Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion

I  recieved this sample in one of my beauty magazines I picked up. I think it was Cosmopolitan. Normally I just ignore the samples in the magazines, but this time, i thought I would give it a try and see what I think of it.

It was a daily moisturising lotion with colloidal oatmeal in it, which I know oatmeal has some wonderful properties that helps boost the skin to give it plumpness and keep it healthy. The claim on the front of the sachet was that it was supposed to keep the skin moisturised for 24 hours.

Now I dont suffer with very much dry skin on my body, Im quite lucky that way so I wasnt expecting to see any miraculous difference to the look and appearance of my skin. I was mainly looking to see how the lotion felt, smelt and how quickly the lotion was absorbed into the skin, as I hate that feeling when you have applied body lotion/butter but then you have to wait before you can put on any clothes because the lotion has left your body feeling greasy/lotiony.

There was 10ml in the sample, so quite a good amount for a free sample. The lotion was very soft and smooth and really applied very quickly and didnt need any excess rubbing into the skin. It didnt have a very strong odour that i could detect. I was able to use the lotion all over my body and straight away I was able to get dressed.

Very impressed with this body lotion and I definitely will be going out at some point in the future to be buying this in a larger bottle. It is normally £7.65 for 300 mls but there are sometimes offers on in the drugstores where you can purchase it for a lot cheaper, so i will keep my eyes peeled for it. I highly recommend this lotion because if I felt a difference in my skin when I dont have dry skin, then those with a drier skin type will surely only see benefits when using this product.

Hope you enjoyed this product review.

Do we have to justify ourselves?

Do we have to justify ourselves?
A lot of times recently, I have been told "you buy a lot of makeup" or "more foundation?", and it has made me question myself about my shopping habits and how I spend my money.

We, as a a society, are criticised if we spend too much money or rely too heavily on loans and credit cards, which in all fairness is good practice and no, we should not be using credit cards and loans to fund unnecessary expenditures. I was always taught, if you havent got the money in your bank, then you just dont have that product until you have saved up enough money to afford it without relying on outside resources to help you.

I will admit, that when I left home and got married, that rule of not spending what you havent got, went out the window and I had credit cards and loans aplenty. But, then I came unstuck and found out the hard way that you eventually have to pay it all back, even if it leaves you with no money to spare. So, I have been slowly but surely climbing my way back to being a little more wise in the monetary way of things and tried to only buy what I needed.

Unfortunately, I had some unhappy times and my marriage hit the rocks and left me as a single mom with a mortgage to pay, bills coming out of my ears and only my part time money to fund it all. In all my unhappiness, I found that apart from my little boy who I cherish with all my heart and love him to the moon and back, that I loved my makeup. It allowed me to paint the mask on and hide behind the layers of the foundation, and blush and lipstick and not let people see that I was slowly dying inside.

But during that time, I began to love my small collection of makeup, and I enjoyed going out to the different stores and looking at all the new products and adding to my collection piece by piece. It gave me a thrill inside knowing that I had the latest Rimmel lipgloss, or the newest Revlon foundation.

Also, battling my diseases that I have, my makeup became my anchor and if I could get up, paint the mask on and go to work, then that gave me the courage to fight and not let the AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis) and Fibromyalgia win.

The desire to go out and see the newest makeup products and releases gave me the oomph I needed to go out the house and do a little bit of walking and push myself to not let the disease win.

I dont drink, I dont smoke, I dont go out partying every weekend., there is food on the table, the bills are paid and I dont ask anyone for money to help me buy my makeup. I fund it all myself, and it gives me such a thrill when the newest package arrives at my door, or I walk out of a department store carrying a bag with a hidden treasure inside. Why shouldn't I treat myself to indulge in my passion that is makeup?

I will admit I do have a big collection of makeup, and when my new bedroom/makeup room is completed ( should be in the next three weeks) I will do a blog about my collection and how I store it.

Do I really need any more makeup ? NO
Will I ever use up all my makeup ? NEVER
Will I stop buying makeup ? NO

It is my passion, and I adore my collection, I love to see new products and mix and match different brands to see the different looks I can create. Im not the greatest at applying makeup but it gives me confidence and I feel stronger when Im out knowing my mask is in place.I know people disapprove of me buying more makeup and think its unnecessary but people collect stamps, dolls,  books. I'm no different, I just collect makeup.

I'm very lucky that my partner is so very supportive of me and helps me shop and carries all my shopping bags when I cant hold them, and is generally understanding of my obsession with makeup and helps me develop my blog, so Im very lucky now.

Well, thats my little rant for now. Let me know if your family or friends are supportive of your makeup shopping or do they find it ridiculous that you have such a large collection of makeup that you will never use up.

Hope you enjoyed this blog
