January 2014 favourites

January 2014 Favourites

Hello to all my lovely readers. I hope the beginning of the year has been a good one for you. I have had a mixed month, what with a boiler man trying to con me out of money, a flood in my kitchen and then my washing machine breaking. On the good side, my son has been doing brilliantly at school, and my health is doing a little better, my nurse is pleased with my progress, finally.

Beauty wise, I have been doing quite a bit of shopping and adding lots to my collection, and I have some favourites that I thought would be nice to share with you.

First up is my shampoo and conditioner that I have been loving this month and it has really helped improve the overall condition of my hair. This cold and wet weather has wreaked havoc with my already temperamental hair.
It's the Bee Strong range from Herbal Essences, that the ever beautiful Nicole Scherzinger helps to publicise. The only down side to the conditioner is that it is so hard to squeeze out of the tube but I will keep persevering with it.

Next up is my newest body lotion that I am loving and just look at the beautiful packaging.
It is the Nivea Soft moisturiser. It is displayed in stores with all the facial moisturisers, but I have been using it to apply all over my body after my shower in the mornings. It is lovely and rich feeling but it doesnt leave the skin feeling greasy or sticky.

Another favourite has yet again been my Lorac Pro Palette. I will never stop using this palette. It is my go to palette when I cant decide what eye look to do. The shadows are buttery and smooth and apply to the lid like a dream, just beautiful.
My favourite shades have been the gold, lt brown and sable, they all just blend together beautifully.

Ever since I bought this next lipstick I have had compliment after compliment and it has really boosted my confidence in wearing this particular shade as I was worried that it might be too dark for my skintone, it is Mac's Rebel.
Such a beautiful berry/plum colour and I recommend it for everyone. Mac lipsticks are on the more expensive side but I think the price is worth it because of the pigmentation and the lasting power of them.
This foundation has been in my collection for a while, but it just proves every time I go back to using it why it is such a favourite of mine. It gives flawless full coverage, doesn't look cakey if you apply an extra layer over blemishes or breakouts, and lasts the whole day. Sometimes when using this foundation I don't need to powder after, which is unheard of for me as I suffer with such oily/combination skin.

My new favourite eye shadow has to be Mac's Cranberry, it is simply gorgeous. You have to be so careful when wearing any red toned/pink toned eye shadows as they can make you look ill/ tired but this is just lovely and has such a beautiful shimmer to it, that it makes any eye look polished and pretty.

Highlighter has been my go to this month and I have been using a lot of Mac's Prep and Prime Radiant Rose.
As you can see, it can applied quite thickly to give more opaque coverage, or blended out to give just a pretty subtle sheen to where ever on the skin you apply it.

Perfume wise it is still my Viva La Juicy Perfume by Juicy Couture. It is such a big bottle that it will take me a few more months till it appears in an empties blog post.

Well, that's all my favourites for this month. I hope you enjoyed reading it, let me know in the comments what your favourites have been this month.

Product Fail :Avon Mega Effects Mascara

Product Fail: Avon Mega Effects Mascara
Hello to all my lovely readers and followers. Now you all should know by now, that because I'm such a beauty lover, any new product that comes on the market, I want to own it, try it and see if it lives up to the hype surrounding it.

I love Avon and nearly all their products, so when this was released I was so intrigued by the shape of the actual mascara brush and wand, it truly does look like a tiny little paintbrush!!, that I knew I had to buy it. The packaging is lovely and sleek looking in its black and red design. It contains 9ml of mascara and I purchased it for £10.

I bought it a while ago, and so I have had it a good time so I can review it thoroughly. And the result I unfortunately have to say, is that it just does not work for me. Although the design of the brush is truly unique, it just does not give the "mega effects" I was looking for. When using the mascara wand, it just does not grip the lashes at all and I have found that in trying to get the bristles to grip the lashes, I have to really try to get as near the base of the lashes as I can and then the mascara just ends up all over the lid, ruining the total look of the eyeshadows.
Doesn't it look just like a paintbrush in its tub of paint?!?

The bristles are facing every which way and they are all different lengths which normally would be great for getting to the tiny lashes at the corners of the eyes, but I just ended up with dots of mascara underneath the bottom lash line after I had blinked a few times and then by dinnertime, I found all the mascara had smudged and flaked and it looked like I had black eyes.

It is such a shame, because it seemed like such a brilliant concept, and I kept trying it over and over again, hoping that once the mascara had had time to dry up a little then it might have been easier to apply and work with but it just didn't. I even applied it over a lash primer seeing if that would help, but nothing worked. The colour was "blackest black" and that really was the case and when it smudged, the smudges were truly "blackest black".

So, that was my review. have any of you tried this mascara? What do you think of it? Please let me know in the comments below.

What Is My Face Worth??

What is my face worth??

Hi to all my lovely readers and followers. We all go shopping continuously for make up, sometimes we buy drugstore and sometimes we buy high end make up. The prices vary each time we go shopping and the more I have got into make up the more variety of different products that i apply to my face.

Well, that got me wondering what if we added up the sum total of ALL the different products used and the brushes that we use to apply them with. So that is what my blog post is going to be about today. Showing you pictures of every product that I have applied to my face today and then working out the cost of each individual product and then totalling it.

Now for me, I would say £40.00 would be an okay figure to have as the sum total, So lets get on and get pricing!!
First off, my primer which is Maybelline's Baby Skin Primer = £7.99
Then my foundation was Revlon's Colourstay = £12.49
Apologies for my dirty foundation brush (but at least you know I used it lol) it is the Sigma F80 = £12.68
My favourite concealer of the moment Maybelline's Fit Me = £5.99
My face powder Max factor's Creme Puff =£ 5.99

Now we move onto my eye make up
My eyelid primer from Elf = £0.60p !!! Bargain alert, and its brilliant!!

My eyeshadows were from the Naked 3 palette today =£31.40
My Real Techniques shading brush £7.99
My L'Oreal Miss manga mascara (which is another awesome product) =£8.99
And finally my lipstick which was Mac's Rebel = £15.00

Now then here comes the totally scary part, totalling all the figures up!!

Drum roll please............. and the total is........... £109.62!!!

Oh my goodness that is scary when you think that is only 10 things and I have hundreds upon hundreds of make up products to my collection. Wow!!

I now challenge you all my lovely readers to do this "what is your face worth " post and see what your total comes to.

I really enjoyed doing this blog post and I hope that you enjoyed reading it too.

Beauty Blogger Tag

Beauty Blogger Tag
Hi to all my lovely readers and followers. I had seen this tag going around for a little while and so I thought it might be fun for me to do, and for you to read and learn a little more about me. If after you have read and would like to write it on your blog, feel free and let me know so I can read your post too. So here goes

1) Why did you start blogging and how long have you been blogging for?
Well, I have been watching make up videos on YouTube for about 3 years, and I have been into make up for about 10 years. I suffer very badly with my nerves and so with the lack of confidence there is no way that I would be able to do make up videos, but I really wanted to start a hobby that involved make up and talking about make up to other people who loved make up and all things beauty, just like me. I have been blogging for 4 months now, and i still love it as much as the day I started.

2) Whose blog did you fall in love with first?
I think Estee's from Essie-Button was the first one I read. She is just so easy to read and her passion and her love for make up comes through in her writing style.

3) What was the first Blogosphere hyped about product that you bought. Was it worth the hype?
That would have to be the Naked 1 palette, I totally love that palette. I have hit pan on 2 of the colours and yes it definitely was and is worth the hype. The pigmentation of the shadows is perfect, the shade range is great and they just last so long, that I would totally would recommend anyone buying it. The thrill of knowing that I had the palette that everyone was raving about, was a great buzz too.

4) What are your favourite things about blogging and being a beauty blogger?
I would have to say being able to talk to and make friends with everyone who writes blogs and makes You Tube videos. I also love learning about all the great new products on the market and being able to talk to people about what I like, what I dont like and what are good, and not so good products. I have found that in writing my blog I have found a way of expressing myself and it has really helped to boost my confidence and self esteem. Especially when I get compliments on how well I have written something or how much someone likes my blog. It makes me feel that maybe, just maybe I have found something that i might be good at.

5)What have you learnt from becoming a beauty blogger?
Hmm, that's a tough question. I think I have learnt to try and when I review a product to not just look at it from my point of view, but from another persons point of view too, so whether a foundation might suit me, but might not suit a person who has extremely dry skin and so mention this in the posts. I have found its important to know all the tiny bits of information too, like price, weight, shade, special offers, where you can purchase the product so that a reader can make an accurate decision on whether a product would suit them too.

6)Have you changed anything since becoming a beauty blogger?
Yes, definitely. I take lots more photos and I make notes upon notes so that when it comes to reviewing products I have all the necessary information needed. I also spend a LOT of time on Twitter trying to promote my blog and chatting to other make up followers to keep up to date with any new releases.  Also, when buying a product I try to buy maybe 2 colours of a certain lipstick/eye shadow so that I can highlight the different colours available. I also, try to keep my make up all together so I know where it all is at any one time and so I don't lose things, which I'm very prone to doing.

7)What advice would you give to a beauty blogger just starting out?
I would say to just be yourself, because if you are fake and try to be someone you are not, then it will come across in your blog and it wont be appealing. Your individuality is important, because I think the blog needs to be you, and your tastes and your opinions and what you love. Also, plan! Plan, plan, plan. Make time to dedicate to researching your blog, writing your blog, make time to take photos, make time to interact with other fellow bloggers and promote your blog as often as you can. Because no one else is going to do it for you, and there are thousands of blogs trying to be read all over the internet and so you have to make your blog THE one that everyone wants to read. Another thing I would say is be patient! I am not good at this but you arent going to have a million readers overnight. Blogs take time to become established and so just keep plugging away at your blog and over time the followers will come.

8)What are your top 5 make up brands?
Ooh this is hard. I hate making decisions. Oh go on then if I have to.

2)Urban Decay

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading this tag, and I tag all of you reading to do it too.

Love and hugs

Product Rave Review: Nailene False Nails

Product Rave Review :Nailene False Nails
Now, anyone who knows me and sees me on a regular basis, knows that I am a true nail polish addict and I change my nail colour every day. I wear every single colour under the sun, different textured polishes, different finishes, you name it in nail polish I have tried it.Even glitter polish, but that drives me crazy. I love the look and sparkle, but to remove it, it is a royal pain in the neck.

With my job being a very manual job, serving customers filling shelves, building displays, my nails get abused a lot, and so I dont normally bother with false nails as every other time I had tried them, even on a weekend when I dont normally do much stuff, the falsies just pinged off. And I cant stand not having all the nails looking the same, so then I would go through the very painful task of removing the rest of the nails and end up throwing them in the bin. Such a waste of money, I know!

Well, last week, I fancied a change, and on the spur of the moment, bought a pack of the Nailene French Express false nails to try and see if these were any different.  On deciding which pack to buy was really hard. I didn't want anything to glitzy and glam, and I didn't really want the nails to be too overly long. I just wanted them to look natural but clean and neat at the same time.

This pack came with 24 nails, of varying sizes, and also supplied in the pack was an emery board to smooth down any rough edges and a cuticle stick, (which I never use as I more often than not find myself slipping and stabbing myself in the finger). I paid £7.99 which I thought was a really good price.

Before applying the nails, I decided to just trim my actual nails down to a short length just so there wasn't any of my natural nail sticking out at the end of the false nail.

They already come with a self adhesive backing, so all I had to do was try to match the size of the nail to my actual nail bed and then press firmly for a minute to help get the glue to adhere to my nail. This was a really quick process and really simple to do. I hate the nails with the glue, because I always tend to get the glue everywhere other than the nail itself.

So last Wednesday, I was so careful when showering and doing the  housework but I need not have worried because they just did not budge. Thursday, I had to do a lot of intricate stuff at work, that I thought one of the nails would definitely ping off to the other side of the shop, but no, they were perfectly safe. Friday and Saturday came and went, and still the nails were still holding on tight. I was definitely impressed this was a total record for me, and all my family were surprised when I showed them the nails were still there.

On Sunday, finally I began to notice that the bottom of the nails were beginning to lift and so I tried to press them a little more tightly to the nail but the wear and tear of the previous few days was beginning to show.

Then today I was brushing my hair, and some strands of my hair got caught in the glue on my one, nail, and Ping!! it flew across the room, and the world record for my longest ever lasting nails was over. But they had done so so well, and totally exceeded my expectations. 6 WHOLE DAYS!!! Such a brilliant result from nails that I thought I would be pleased if they just lasted 1 day like my others had done.

I loved these nails, and definitely recommend them to everyone. So easy to apply, classy and elegant looking, purse and budget friendly and last far longer than I ever thought.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the nails whilst they were on, but I did post a photo on my Instagram account, which is zoea2812. So if you want to have a proper look at the nails, just pop along there and you will see them.

Well, that is my product rave for the Nailene false nails. Let me know in the comments below, of your experience with false nails and have you ever tried this brand, and what you thought of them.

Lots of new things

Lots of New Things
I know, I know I'm supposed to be on a minimum spend, but I just cant help myself. Its so hard because I work in the make up section of Boots, of course I get to see all the new releases from the brands we carry (thank goodness it is only a small store, lol)

4 mascaras were released from Max Factor, Maybelline, Rimmel, and 17.
This is Rimmel's latest offering from the Scandaleyes range. I have to say I love the jazzy packaging, just hope the mascara is good.
This is 17's new mascara, and when you buy this you get the liner to go with it and I LOVE the liner, really pigmented and I love the shape of the tip of the pen, very unique.
That is just one swipe with the liner. LOVE IT!!
This next one is Maybellines new mascara (dual ended), and they have launched a new eye palette in a variety of combination of shades. I chose the brown/nude one as I thought I would wear it the most. But there is a turquoise and pink one, a yellow, green and purple one, so if you like bright eye looks, these would be great for you.
The orange and the dark brown were very pigmented, the others not so much but they will be great for highlight/inner corner shades. Maybelline have also released a new foundation called better skin, and also a concealer to go with it.
I have not tried these out yet but I will do a review on them once I have.

Max Factor have also launched a new mascara, double ended like the Maybelline one, but at the same time they have launched new eye liners to go with them. The shades that I have seen, are silver, brown, charcoal and gold. I picked up the charcoal and brown as they are the most classic colours I would get the most wear out of. To be honest, I did swatches of the liner on my hand and they are not very pigmented. But I will give them a try and see how well they last on my eye looks.
I hope you enjoyed this post on all the latest offerings that I have found at the drugstore. Let me know in the comments if you have bought any of these, or if I have tempted you into buying one of them

Saturday Shoutout : Maybelline Blusher

Saturday Shoutout: Maybelline Blusher
At the moment I have been watching the lovely people of the beauty community on You Tube showing the latest offerings from Maybelline, the new highlights blushers and bronzers, and they described them as really lovely and pigmented and that everyone should be buying them

As is always the case, the USA always gets the new releases first and us in the UK have to just patiently wait until all the new products cross the ocean and land on our shores. I have been looking on the internet to get my hands on the new blushers but unfortunately they are no where to be found and so I went digging through my collection to see if I had any blushers from Maybelline that I had forgotten about, and that I could put in my make up stash to use this week.

Lo and behold, there sat a lonely little blush at the bottom of my make up drawer and I know for a fact I have not used this in months, so I got it out and just tried to use it this week and see if it was any good. The colour I have is "Peach" and I have to say it is truly beautiful. At first, you think there is no colour to it, but after a good couple of swirls of the brush, you can build up a lovely light flush to the cheeks.

It really gives you just a natural look and that is what I like to achieve with my blusher, as I hate it when a blush is far too pigmented and no matter how gentle you are with the brush, you end up with great big splodges of pigment and cant get it to tone down, no matter how much you try to blend.

This blushes did come packaged with a little brush. I did try a couple of times to apply the blusher with it, but I just couldn't get it to apply evenly, so I went back to using my Real Techniques stippling brush, which applies the blusher really smoothly and easily.I have been using this blusher every day this week, and I have really enjoyed using it. I haven't even made a dent in it too, so I should imagine this blusher will be in use for a while.

I am so impatient when it comes to new products being launched over here, I wish that when things are launched in America they should be launched in the UK at the same time. I definitely recommend Maybelline and their powder blush. I think they are very good value for money. The only down side I have found is with the packaging. It comes in a little plastic case with a see through plastic lid, but the plastic lid keeps coming away from the actual base of the blusher and so I have to keep popping it back together. Its no real big issue but when travelling this might not be the best one to take with you as you might end up with blusher all over your make up bag.

I hope you enjoyed this Saturday Shoutout

January 2014 GlossyBox

January 2014 Glossybox
Hi everyone. This post is going to be about this months Glossybox. I will explain for those who dont know, that Glossybox is a monthly subscription box, and depending on what you write on your profile depends on what goodies you recieve in your box.

Now, if you have been a reader of mine for a while, you will know that I normally love most of the products in the box and so enjoy using all the different products. Unfortunately this month I was not so impressed. I have tried to look over the items I recieved and it just does not WOW me, like most month's boxes do.

As usual it came with the lovely Glossybox magazine which I always read and includes different articles and interviews.
Then inside, there was a pretty pair of tweezers, which yes I like for the cuteness of them, but I already own 4 pairs, and so to me I wouldn't have a need for another pair, but I have placed them in my make up bag in case I lose the other pairs, As you know sometimes tweezers, and bobby pins, and hair bobbles always go walkies and you can never find them where you left them.
They look like something Cath Kidston would make for her range and so they do make a pretty accessory to any dressing table I should imagine.

Next out of the box was a Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash. Its 50mls in size, so it would work perfectly for anyone travelling, as its just small enough to take in a travel make up bag.The description says that it is packed full of skin boosting, smoothing and toning, juniper, bergamot, geranium and lavender essential oils. It does smell very fresh and I like the fact that it has a lot of natural and herbal ingredients.
Then came two really disappointing products. They were tubes of moisturiser but they were exactly the same!!! I mean come on, I wouldn't have minded one and a different product maybe from the same brand but why just throw 2 of the same thing in the box. Its as if the makers of the box, just couldn't think of another product, so just gave me another one.
I'm trying to think of a positive thing to say about this, but maybe that will come when I have used them and they may turn out to be the wonder cream that I have been searching for all my life, but the sceptic in me doubts it. But I will try them and let you know.

Now a product I was pleased to see in there was a tube of Vaseline Essential moisture lotion and it contains pure oat extract which is extremely nourishing for the skin.
Again this another product which would be perfect for anyone travelling as it is 50mls in size. I highly recommend Vaseline for anyone looking for good body lotions as I have used them in the past, and they are extremely moisturising for the skin and do not ever leave you feeling greasy and make you have to wait 15 minutes before you can get dressed. I think this was my favourite product in the box.

Last of all was a packet of eye patches.
Now to be truthful I don't really suffer from eye bags so much as dark circles as I don't sleep very well, and my ill health means that my eyes always look dark and sallow. But I have never tried any eye patches before and so I will be interested in how they work and if they do make my eyes look a little more refreshed and awake. I think a blog post on how these work will definitely be in order.

So, what do you think? Do you think this was a good selection of items? Do you have this box and what did you think of the items in there. Let me know in the comments below.

Some First Impressions

Some First Impressions

Hi everyone. I don't know if it is just me, but when I buy a new product I can normally tell by the first use whether I'm going to like it or hate it.Sometimes Im wrong, because on a couple off occasions I have hated a product, but kept on using it, and it has grown on me to the extent that I really enjoy using them, but most of the time Im correct.

So in this post I thought I would give my first impressions on new products I have tried recently.

First up is the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge
I have used the Beauty Blender for a couple of years now and so when this came on the market I was intrigued as to whether it would be as good. I think the Real Techniques Sponge is a lot better in my opinion, it feels a lot softer material and it has a part cut out so that it is easier to blend foundation in around the corners of the nose and delicate eye area. I also use it for blending in my concealer, and it is perfect for this as it is a lot slimmer in shape than the beauty blender, and so is just perfect for blending in a lot smaller areas. I totally recommend this for the money.

Next up is the Urban Decay De Slick Setting Spray.
I know this product has been on the market for a while, and it is constantly being used by gurus on YouTube. But I loved my Mac Fix + Spray, and have been using that religiously, but I noticed this when I was doing a little bit of retail therapy in town the other week, and decided to pick this up and try it to see if it compares. When using this spray it feels definitely cooler when it lands on the skin, and it is a refreshing product if you were using it to cool down if you were feeling a little hot and flustered. BUT, it does not get rid of the oils on my T=Zone. For a product to be called "de slick" I imagined that it would help to keep my skin looking matte and oil free, but it doesn't do that. I will keep on using it to see if it improves but at the moment, I prefer my Mac Fix + spray.

Lastly, is a Mac eye shadow called Green Smoke.
Now in the photos the actual eye shadow and the swatch on my hand look totally different, but I can assure you they are the same product, lol. I had never heard of this eye shadow before I received it for my birthday last year, but it is simply beautiful. It is more like the colour of the actual eye shadow when worn on the eyelids and the glitter and shimmer it gives off is stunning. It really made my brown eyes pop, and I got so many compliments off customers at work, saying how pretty my eye-shadow looked. If you don't like glitter then you will NOT like this eye-shadow, but it really is a gorgeous colour.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know in the comments if you have tried these products yourself and what you think of them.

Love and hugs
