Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette Review and Swatches

Now if you have been a follower of mine for a while, you will know how much I love the original Too Faced Chocolate bar palette. The colours are fantastic and when you open the lid, the delicious smell of the cocoa powder which is infused into the eyeshadows just hits you.
So as soon as I saw that they had released another version of it, I just knew I had to get it. This picture below is the Semi Sweet Chocloate Bar Palette.
Both palettes are encased in a tin, but the Semi Sweet palette is a lot slimmer in design, so a little easier to travel with. I love that both palettes have a mirror in the lid and both come with little how to guides so that if you are stuck for how to combine the colours for certain looks, then this will help you so much. Another great addition to the second palette is that the names of the shades are now embossed onto the tin, under each colour. Whereas before the names were only on a plastic sheet that was loose in the tin, and I was always losing it. Both palettes have the cocoa powder infused into them, and the shadows themselves are extremely buttery soft to apply, which means they are so easy to blend and get rid of any harsh lines within the look. I would say that the only two shades which were a tiny bit of a let down were the Pink Sugar, which is the second shadow on the middle row and the Blueberry Swirl which is the 4th shadow on the middle row. These just are not as pigmented as the other shadows and need a lot more work at picking the product up on the brush. They just don't go on the eye as they look when seen in the palette. The other shadows are all extremely pigmented, especially the darker ones, the black shadow is one of the darkest and pigmented black shadows I have ever come across. You only need to pat the brush into the colour once to get as much pigment as you would need for the whole lid. But the Pink Sugar and Blueberry Swirl just add a light shimmer and sheen to the lids. Dont get me wrong, the blue shadow is stunning in it's own right and great if you just want to add a little touch of colour as a liner to an otherwise neutral eye.

First row swatched.
Second row swatched. See what I mean about the Pink Sugar, really light to swatch.
Third row swatched.
Another great plus to the Chocolate bar palettes, and this goes for both of them, is that there is everything you need to create a whole eye look in each palette. You have lid shades, crease shades, outer V colours and highlight colours in both mattes and shimmery shades so there is something for everyone to like. The Semi Sweet palette is a truly beautiful palette, and I love using it, and will be using this for many months to come.

Well, that is my review and I hope you have enjoyed reading it. Have you got any of these palettes, please feel free to let me know what you think of them in the comments below. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and I will talk to you all again very soon.

January 2015 Empties

This month yet again, I am really trying to keep my buying down to a minimum. Well, let's not say a minimum but I am definitely being more selective of the things I am purchasing. I have found after 3 years of purchasing pretty much anything new that came on the market, I am not doing so any more as I have found that i just don't use them all that often. I use them for the first few days after I have bought them, and then I go back to my tried and trusted faithful products. So I am definitely clearing out my collection and gettting good use out of products that have been in my collection for a while, and then getting rid of them in the bin. So let's see what sorts of things I have finished up over the last four weeks shall we?

This Anovia shower gel I got as a freebie in one of my goodie bags at  the latest blog meet I went to. It definitely smelt of strawberries and blackcurrants and was very nice smelling. As to being moisturising, I can't really say whether my skin felt any different after using than it normally does, so I cannot say that it moisturised well. Would I repurchase it in the future? To be honest, probably not, as I dont think it performed any better than the normal regular bog standard shower gels you get at the chemists/supermarkets.
You all know I love my mouthwash to make sure my breath is smelling as nice as possible, and this is even more important now I am on my Slimming World diet, as there is always onions and garlic in every recipe that I cook, and so i dont want my colleagues to say that I smell of onions and garlic. Will definitely be purchasing this in the future.

This Avon shampoo I bought a while ago, and it had just been sitting in my drawer not being used. It did leave my hair feeling very nice and clean, but I would not say it did anything out of the ordinary to my hair, so I probably would not repurchase this as there are other shampoos which I much prefer.
I have gone through many cans of my holy grail rapid dry top coat spray and I will continue to repurchase this for as long as they still make it, as I have found nothing better to put on my nails after I have painted them to dry them quickly as I am so impatient at having to sit and wait for my chosen polish to dry. I highly recommend this product if you have not tried it before.

Now this next product was a total fail for me, and that is because I just could not get any product out of the botttle at all. It is a miniature shower gel from L'Occitane. I normally love L'Occitane products as they just feel so luxurious but this product just would not come out of the bottle no matter how hard I squeezed the bottle. I guess my hands are pretty weak from having arthritis in them, but even still!!!
Benefit's They're Real mascara is a very good mascara, and this is a sample bottle that I recieved in one of my beauty magazines I bought last year. The only problem is that it can be very difficult to remove with a plain make up remover wipe, and so may be a little off putting for those of you who like your make up removal to be easy and effortless. I will repurchase this in the future but I do have  2 more samples and a full size tube already in my stash, so wont be needing any for a little while.
Last but not least is an eyeshadow primer from Urban Decay. I love this primer, it really helps your eyeshadow stay put and not crease at all. I really recommend this product as it is just great staple in my collection and would definitely recommend it to anyone in the market for an new eyeshadow primer. Im trying to use up others in my collection but as soon as they are gone, this will be a permanent fixture in my daily routine.

I hope you have enjoyed this post, and look forward to reading your comments on how you are doing using up products in your collection.

Till next time,

January 2015 Favourites

Thought I would talk about my favourite products of the past month in this post. My main focus has been on my face products namely my primer and foundation as I have found two products that I have totally fallen in love with. I have dabbled in the past with quite a few primers that have worked really nicely, e.g Benefit's The Porefessional, Rimmel's Fix and Protect, and Maybelline's Baby Skin, but I have found one that has really quickly turned into my holy grail and have used it basically non stop for the past few weeks. It is the Rachel K CC cream.
It goes on white and is quite a thick consistency and so you do have to move quite quickly to blend it into the skin, but then it turns into your natural skin colour. You don't need a lot for the whole face, but I mainly concentrate it over my oily areas mainly my T-zone as that is where I like a lot of coverage from my foundation. It is not siliconey feeling like some of those other products on the market, and does not feel heavy on the skin.
I have used many foundations in the past and often changed them up daily, as I like different looks and products on different days, but this foundation I have been wearing a LOT, and is just fantastic It is quite thick in consistency and you do only need a small amount because if you apply too much it can look cakey very quickly, and so it is better to apply a tiny amount and then increase in small amounts. I use it with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and it goes onto the skin beautifully. I just make sure that I blend it really well, into my hair line and along the jawline, as you definitely dont want any lines. It is a high end foundation but definitely worth it in my opinion.
Bourjois have some lovely products and this mascara is no exception, it really gives great volume to your lashes from the very first sweep of it, and is a curved brush so gets into contact with even the tiniest lashes on the outer edges that some mascaras just do not reach. It does not flake and just stays put onto the lashes until the time you want to take the mascara off. Often to get volume on my lashes, I have to apply 2 coats to get a dramatic look, but with this mascara you can definitely get away with just one application if you wanted to.

I have really been into either a silvery grey eye shadow look, or into a matte brown smoky eye look, and this is what I have been favouring the last few days. A girl can never have too many brown shadows, and different tones of brown shadows as they are just so easy to apply. This Smashbox Full Exposure palette is really beautiful and has the top row of full shimmery shadows and the bottom row is full of matte shadows. This bottom row is the row of shadows I have been consistently using and concentrating on. I use the 3rd shade from the right as my crease shade and blending out colour. The 2nd shadow from the left as my all over lid colour. Then to darken the look and outer V I use the black on the end of the row to create some depth. This black shadow is SO pigmented that you only have to lightly tap the brush into the pan to get a lot of colour. I then use the cream in the middle to highlight the brow bone and the brighten the inner corners of my eye. The key to this look is to blend, blend, and blend some more as you really dont want that black shadow to be too harsh.

I love this YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick in 15. It is a beautiful peach shade, and is so easy to wear with every look and feels buttery soft and moisturising on the lips. Another fantastic thing about this lipstick is the packaging, I mean, how beautiful is that casing. It looks so ornate and feminine, I definitely think I need to get more of these lipsticks as they are just so easy to wear and apply. You don't even need to wear a lip liner with it if you did not want too.

For concealer, I have been going back to my oldie but a goodie, in the Maybelline Age eraser. This just goes on and on forever and is such an amazing price for a product that is good quality and lasts for years. I use it to cover my dark circles and then set it with a powder to make sure it doesnt crease, and it lasts all day. A really good product.
If on the rare occasions I have not worn my Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, it has been the Maybelline Fit Me foundation that has been my go to skin base product. This is much more fluid in consistency compared to the Laura Mercier foundation but gives a truly beautiful appearance to the skin and you can use it with a foundation brush, a beauty blender or just by using your fingertips, it is just so adaptable to what you need. The only downside to this foundation is that they do not do many shades and so you may not be able to get the right shade for you, as this is a little too light for me, but the next shade up is way too dark and so I just use a little bronzer if I need my face just to look a little more tanned.

For me Maybelline are just an amazing brand and I love their products. Non beauty favourites this month have been drinking a nice green tea, I'm really enjoying them at the moment, especially the ones with lemon in, and reading my kindle. It has been so cold here lately, and so curling up in front of the fire, with my kindle and a cup of green tea has really helped me to feel warmer and cosy.

I hope you have enjoyed this post, and let me know in the comments what your favourites have been this month.

Wedding Day Beauty Ideas

On the run up to your wedding day, there are many things to plan and to think about, and sometimes your make up is one of the last things on the list, and so I thought today I would write a post giving you maybe some little ideas that may just inspire you to use them for your wedding make up look.

I think that when thinking about your makeup, it really needs to coordinate with your dress, so everything flows together and creates those gorgeous wedding day photos. If you have chosen a very simple style of gown then I feel that you could perhaps go a little more bold perhaps with your lipstick for instance, wearing a bright pink lipstick if you have chosen pink flowers for your bouquet, e,g Maybelline's Fuschia Flash lipstick.

Also, to create a little pop of colour to go with the lips, a nice pretty blush just to highlight those cheekbones would really help to add a little brightness to the cheeks without detracting from the dress in any way.
This pretty blush from Benefit called Rockateur has such a pretty shimmer and sheen that it just really gives your cheeks just a hint of colour, and gives the face that radiant glow that every bride has on their special day. Because the dress has such simple lines and is just so elegant looking I really would only really focus on the lips and cheeks and maybe a little light brown liner to highlight the eyes.

Isn't this dress just so intricate and beautiful? It is called a Mixed Metals dress and I think it is stunning. For me I think I would use gorgeous matte eyeshadows to match the grey/silver tone of the dress. This palette from Bare Minerals is just perfect, it is called "The Affair To Remember" and that is what everyone will remember when you wear a dress this stunning. You could use the grey shade on the bottom row as the all over lid colour, and then just to give the look a little "edge" I would apply the lavender/purple shade into the crease and blend to create a soft, smoky eye look but that does not look harsh but feminine and pretty too.
If you wanted to incorporate a little colour into the look, but did not want it to look too much, then you could always wear a bright colour on the nails.

This is a pinky red shade from Barry M called Watermelon and this colour would look great on either fingertips and especially on the toes, if you were wearing cute little peep toe shoes.
Wow!! I love, love this dress. I just love the chiffon sleeves and the drapiness of the whole look. For me I would definitely team this dress with dark fluttery lashes and I know the perfect mascara for this would be the 3D Fibre Lash Effect Mascara from Younique. It creates such long fluttery lashes that everyone will think that you are wearing false lashes, but for me, I would be too busy worrying if they were going to fall off halfway through the wedding service or whilst you were dancing at the evening party. You don't want mascara that runs either, and the Younique mascara is waterproof too, so it is just so perfect for wedding day make up.

Your face does not want to be covered in heavy, cakey looking foundation, I think that a woman's skin on her wedding day should look verynatural, and so the perfect solution would be a BB Cream or a tinted moisturiser.
This one from Mememe Cosmetics is just perfect, and gives just the right amount of dewiness to the skin without it looking too oily or shiny. Also is small enought to pop into your clutch bag, so that during the day, if any touch ups are needed, it is right there at hand. If you did not want to wear a bright lip, then a shiny light natural lip gloss would look so feminine and girly and the one I thought would look really pretty on your wedding day is the Nyx Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel, it is such a pretty shiny corallly peach shade, that it would never detract from the look of your dress.
So, we have chosen our perfect dress, and we have chosen the perfect make up, but we also have to smell beautiful and feminine too. Not so much that everyone chokes as you walk past them, but something soft, and pretty and that in years to come you will be able to say "I wore that perfume on my wedding day". I have chosen "Amazing Grace" by Philosophy. It is such a pretty, gentle scent and is perfect for wearing on your perfect day.
I hope you have enjoyed this post, and I would like to thank for inviting me to use some of their gorgeous wedding dresses from their website as inspiration for the make up products I have chosen above. If you have your wedding being planned and are looking for inspiration to find that perfect dress, please go to and look at all those gorgeous dresses they have there. They literally have hundreds and hundreds and I am sure there will be something for everybody. They are truly amazing dresses.

Till next time,

A Haul feat. Urban Decay, Laura Mercier, Dior, Bobbi Brown and Nars

I had not been shopping in a couple of weeeks, no make that 3 weeks, which is incredible for me, and so Saturday I jumped onto the bus and headed into Town, and into one of my most favourite stores, Selfridges.I love it in there because all of the counters are in one area and so you don't have to walk to different department stores to find what you need. First off, I popped along to the Urban Decay counter as a good friend of mine had recently started working there and so wanted to see her and check out the new Naked On The Run set. It is gorgeous and has eyeshadows, blush, highlight, bronzer, lipgloss, eye pencil and a new mascara in. I just had to get it.

I have not tried them as of yet, but the eyeshadows look beautiful.. I have tried the mascara though and it is a great product and really darkens and volumises your lashes for a really striking look.
Then I popped to the Laura Mercier counter as everyone raves about the Plumberry lip liner and I really wanted to add this to my lip liner collection.

This liner is beautiful, and is creamy and soft to apply. I have worn this under my Burberry Rose wood lipstick and it really helped the lipstick to stay longer and not bleed out of my natural lip line. I am going to be doing another Get Ready With Me post this week and I will show you how I have been using it. Bobbi Brown was my next port of call, and I had 3 things on my shopping list from there, the Golden Light bronzer which I have seen in tutorials on YouTube and looks beautiful, and then 2 eyeshadows, in the shades Camel and Toast.

I already own two other Bobbi Brown shades which I have had for a couple of years, and they are regularly in my everyday make up as they are just staples which add to any make up look. They are Bone and Taupre, but the two I purchased Saturday are much warmer in town and will look great worn either as an all over lid colour or just to warm up the crease. Then it was off to Nars. I will say that the staff here are much like the staff at Mac and are too busy talking to offer you any really good customer service, but I persevered and stood waiting for 10 minutes and then walked up to the assistant and broke into her conversation and asked if she could help me. Normally I dont do that, but I was determined that I really wanted the Nars Frivolous lip crayon, and eventually she served me. I will say through the transaction the girl was very nice and pleasant to speak to, so that kind of made up for being ignored for the first 10 minutes at the counter. This lip crayon is gorgeous.

It is a "my natural lip colour but better" kind of crayon and so there is not a lot of colour to it, but it is the glossy finish to your lips when worn what sold the product to me. It is a stunning look to your lips when applied, and so comfortable to wear, so if you are in the market for a new lip product, I would put this high on your list to purchase soon. The last counter I went to was Dior, and the lady there could not have been more helpful, I wanted a lip liner in the colour "Airy Mauve" and luckily enough I bought the last one. She said everyone had been going crazy over this pencil, and so I was very relieved that I was able to get one. I could not believe it when I opened the box too, as it comes with a little pencil sharpener and a brush on one end of it,to brush and blend the colour over your lips. A total bargain in my opinion to get those extras with it.

It is a pinky/plum shade, and is a beautiful colour. Well, that is the end of my haul. I seem to be going through a little bit of a lip liner frenzy at the moment but they are all just so pretty and I am so glad to have them in my collection now and I know I will get a lot of use out of them. I have started to sell some of my products that I have not used at all, or only used once, on my Ebay so that the products don't go to waste and just sit in a drawer doing nothing.

I hope you have enjoyed this post, and let me know in the comments what you have been hauling lately.

Love and Hugs,
